AIS-R is committed to the practice of strategic planning in an effort to create a future that will benefit all members of our community. Strategic planning is a process that causes us to focus on research in education and to seek new ways to meet the needs of students more effectively. Faculty, staff, parents and community members developed our first plan in 1990, under the guidance of Dr. Steve Baroni (Strategic Planning Consultant). At that time, AIS-R (SAIS-R) created the Mission and Guiding Statements, and identified strategies that have helped us to strengthen our curriculum and instruction, challenge our students, hire and retain a superior staff, limit risks and disruptions to our school program, encourage the understanding of cultural diversity, improve school communication and clarify our responsibility to the environment. Subsequent plans were developed in five-year intervals, to include, 1996 to 2001 (Dr. Baroni), 2002 to 2007 (Dr. Peter Relic, Board Consultant), and 2008 to 2013 (Dr. Peter Relic) and John Littleford (2013-18).
Since 2013, AIS-R shifted its strategic thinking to an annual review/assessment of its mission and strategies for an ever-changing world. The current model, developed through consultation with John Littleford, continues to be visionary, embracing five years of strategic “possibilities” ahead. However, it is also a dynamic, contextualized and fluid process, so as to be responsive to the changing needs of our stakeholders and research in education. Each year, AIS-R utilizes task forces, stakeholder input and Board of Trustee review to reaffirm, modify and update this plan while ensuring we act responsibly on recommendations of our current NEASC/CIS Re-Accreditation Report (and align with the expectations of the Saudi Ministry of Education). In 2015, AIS-R began the process of CIS Global Citizenship Certification, and reframed some of the plan’s language and strategies to encompass global awareness and understanding. In April 2017, AIS-R was awarded CIS’s Global Citizenship Certification” (CIS GC Award Letter; CIS GC Report & Project Highlights).
Goal 1: Teacher Recruitment
Recruit and retain highly-qualified, superior teachers who are committed to AIS-R’s Mission.
Goal 2: Student and Teacher Learning
Continue to develop and implement a standards-based learning system that aligns with AIS-R’s Mission and guiding documents (including the AIS-R’s Eagle Honor Code, AIS-R Learning Principles, AIS-R Assessment, Evaluation & Reporting Procedures & Practices and AIS-R’s Learning and Growth Model) to improve student learning.
Goal 3: School Beautification, Development, and Capital Facility Improvements
Begin a process of new school beautification, continue the capital replacement plan, develop “phase 2” of new school facility plans and create friendraising and fundraising initiatives (pending MoE approval).
Goal 4: Connected Learning
Continue to implement and improve AIS-R’s 1:World Plan to individualize learning, meet student needs and connect with the global community.
Goal 5: Stakeholder Communication
Continue to develop strategies for enhanced communication between school and community.
Goal 6: IB Diploma Program
Continue to improve AIS-R’s IB Diploma Program and student performance on IB assessments.
Goal 7: Accreditation and Authorization
Continue to assess AIS-R’s educational programs to meet and exceed the requirements of both major and sectional recommendations for CIS/NEASC/IBO accreditation.
Goal 8: Child Protection and Teacher Safeguarding
Continue to follow and improve AIS-R’s Child Protection Policies and Procedures and further develop awareness, curriculum, daily practices, and learning opportunities to ensure the safety of the AIS-R community.
